ACB President - Dr Gwyn McCreanor

Dr Gwyn McCreanor is a Consultant Clinical Biochemist at Kettering General Hospital Foundation Trust. She is also Clinical Director for Pathology, Business Unit Director for Clinical Services (including Pathology, Radiology, Pharmacy, Cancer, Diagnostics and Therapies) and Clinical Lead for Research at Kettering.  She was also Associate Medical Director at Kettering from 2004 – 2014.

Born and raised in Ireland she started her career in research with a PhD from University College London, investigating nucleotide metabolism at the Courtauld Institute of Biochemistry before moving to a post-doctoral position with the MRC working on purine metabolism specifically around the clinical outcomes of the metabolic defects.  It was during this time that she became interested in Clinical Biochemistry and its essential role in medicine and diagnosis. Moving into Clinical Biochemistry was the opportunity to combine a clinical career and research.

She moved to Kettering General Hospital Foundation Trust in 1999 as Consultant Clinical Biochemist and became Clinical Director of Pathology in 2000.

Dr McCreanor has regularly been involved in ACB activities, having spent time working on Venture Publications, as well as treasurer on the ACB Southern Region committee which provided an opportunity to be involved in the ACB at a wider regional level.  She has also served as Secretary of the ACB and Director of Publications.

Dr McCreanor is a Royal College of Pathologists examiner and an Association of Clinical Scientists (ACS) assessor.  She was an ACS Executive Director and treasurer from 2010 to 2013.  She was awarded the ACB Presidents’ Shield in 2010 for work on gaining accreditation for the ACB to award Chartered Scientist status.
